Breaking 100/90/80 Your monthly guide to the scoring basics
By Jim Flick Golf Digest Teaching Professional with Roger Schiffman Golf Digest March 2006
Some words you hear can hurt your game
In golf, as well as in life, we all have different interpretations of the same words. Because of our unique learning styles and the individual ways we process the meanings of words, a seemingly positive-sounding phrase can have a detrimental effect on your game. Keep this in mind as we explore some words that are meant to induce good actions, but can actually result in the opposite. For example, instead of power, think of keeping your grip light and your arms loose, as I'm doing here. It is my observation that most tour players spin the club in their leading hand after striking the ball. They can only do this with a light grip.
Breaking 100: The word 'power' can be the root of evil Breaking 90: On pitches, forget the words 'world-class finish' Breaking 80: Resist the word 'aggressive' Breaking 70: On the greens, ignore the word 'accelerate'
